Through the auspices of SOAR, the production and performance of an annual drama or musical is staged through the direction of renowned theatre professionals, such as Michael Berkeley.
SOAR aims to host a number of all-school assemblies during the academic year. These are chosen in partnership with school principal Lisa Carter, and mesh with themes across the grades at SCS. SOAR also sponsors speakers, performances and presentations appropriate for more grade-specific groups throughout the year.
SOAR works closely with teachers to identify opportunities to enhance the school-day curriculum and provides the grant money for specific classroom/grade specific projects. From nature-focused field trips, to live theatre performances to hands-on expert-led learning experiences, these are designed to actively engage students and support their classroom learning experience.
SOAR is currently working in partnership with the school in its quest to enhance the opportunities to actively engage students in the application of their classroom knowledge, particularly in the areas of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math). We hope to achieve this with the joint-funding and creation of an Innovation Station via a makerspace program which would allow students to creatively explore their ideas using concepts learnt from the classroom.
SOAR relies greatly on the generosity and goodwill of the community both for its programming funding and in the manpower of its execution. In recognition of this, SOAR sponsors a number of events open to the whole community. These include events such as the Annual Quiz Bowl Night at Noble Horizon and the Arts and Craft tent at the Fall Festival. Make Your Contribution
